Settlers of Catan

WHAT What is the main theme, story or key idea?
Players build settlements on the island of Catan. It’s a non violent game focusing on using resources wisely, trading with others, negotiation and interaction.
HOWHow do the key mechanics and ideas work?
The basic goal of Catan is to earn victory points, which you do by expanding your settlement on the island. You need to gather resources (by producing them yourself, or by trading with your opponents) in order to expand. When a player has gathered 10 points overall, they announce their total and claim the win.
WHY Why is Settlers of Catan worth your time?
One of the most popular games ever, Catan has a whole host of expansions and spin-offs, and is very accessible for newcomers to modern board games. It's trading mechanics also make it a very sociable game as there will always be interaction happening between players as they negotiate trades.
