Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective

WHAT What is the main theme, story or key idea?
In Consulting Detective, players are presented a mystery by Sherlock Holmes and it is their duty to walk the streets of Victorian London to track down clues. This is a very open ended game where players must use their own logic to work out where to go, who to talk to and ultimately, who committed each crime.
HOWHow do the key mechanics and ideas work?
To play Consulting Detective, players will use a map of London to decide which locations they would like to visit in order to look for clues. Upon visiting a location, players will read from the case book to see if they discover anything at that location. Players can also consult various experts to obtain extra clues such as through speaking to Mycroft or Inspector Lestrade. In addition, each case comes with an accompanying newspaper which might reveal extra clues to players and help them track down the guilty suspect.
WHY Why is Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective worth your time?
This game is a fantastic social intrigue game which encourages players, as a group, to figure out how and why each crime occurred. Its an excellent gateway to narrative focused board games and is a hugely satisfying game to play as you work to unravel each mystery. It's beautifully crafted and is a really satisfying, immersive experience to play; particularly when flicking through the included Victorian newspapers on the hunt for clues.
